Pattern Notes

  • Project Level: Beginner
  • Read this if you want to learn how I change color without tails. To minimise weaving in the ends and because I love working with color so much I developed a method of how to change color in crochet without tails.

Crochet Snowflake Bauble Pattern:

Pattern Overview – 2 Easy Steps

  1. Make the first bauble half.
  2. As you make the second half, join with the first half in the last round.

1. Make The First Half Of Your Bauble.

Start with a sliding loop / magic ring in your chosen snowflake colour, e.g. blue. Then rnd 3 is where you switch to your chosen background colour, e.g cream.

Rnd1 (Blue) Ch 3 (counts as dc), dc in ring (ch 1, 2 dc in ring) four times, ch 1, join with sl st to top of ch-3. (5 clusters of 2-dc separated by ch-1)

Rnd2 (Blue) *Ch 4, (sc, ch 4, sc) in next space; rep from * 4 times. (10 ch-4 spaces)

Rnd3 (Cream) Fold down the ch-4 from the same space below downwards towards you. Sl st in the middle of that space in between both ends of ch-4 (the ch-1 space from 2 rnds ago). (Ch 3, dc, ch 1, 2 dc) in same space. *Fold down the ch-4 from the next space downwards towards you (skip the ch-4 above 2-dc cluster). (2 dc, ch 1, 2 dc) in the middle of that space between both ends of ch-4 (the ch-1 space from 2 rnds ago); rep from * 3 times, join with a sl st to top of ch-3. (10 2-dc clusters & 10 spaces out of which 5 are ch-1 spaces)

Rnd4 (Cream) Sl st in same space while crocheting over the ch-4 from below. Ch 3 (counts as dc), 2 dc in same space while crocheting over the ch-4, 3 dc in next space (while crocheting over the ch-4 from below) and every space, join with sl st to top of ch-3. (10 3-dc clusters)

Rnd5 (Cream) Ch 3 (counts as dc), 2 dc in same space, 3 dc in next space and every space, join with sl st to top of ch-3. (10 3-dc clusters)

Rnd6 (Cream) Rep rnd 5, fasten off. (10 3-dc clusters)

Weave in or tie off the ends.

2. As you make the second half, join with the first half in the last round.

Repeat the first 5 rounds to make the second half.

As you make the last round, join with the first half as follows. In round 6, ch 3, 2 dc in same space and remove the hook from the loop. Pick any space between granny clusters on the half you’re joining with. Insert the hook front to back through that space, pull the loop up and ch 1. *3 Dc in the next space, remove the hook from the loop, insert it through the next space along and ch 1. Rep from * until you’ve joined most of the round.

Insert your bauble. Continue joining with the first half until you’ve joined for the last time in the last space remaining with a ch-1 and joined with a sl st to the top of ch-3. Fasten off.

Weave in the last tail.
